ABSTRACT

The world is confronted with underdevelopment and poverty that affect large segments of the globe. This is morally unacceptable and economically inefficient, so there are good reasons to develop policies to enhance growth in the less developed areas. However, opinions diverge greatly on how to achieve this enhanced growth. To many, the main avenue is access to the markets of developed countries (Chapter 5) supported by good macro conditions (Chapter 6). However, many others think that this will not be sufficient to arrive at more balanced economic growth in the world and foster development aid.
