ABSTRACT
The Channel Tunnel is a rail link capable of taking fast trains at short intervals. Four kinds of traffic are carried: through passenger and through goods trains operating direct services between places in Britain and places on the mainland of Europe, and Shuttle trains carrying passenger cars and coaches, and similar trains carrying lorries. The latter trains currently run only between the tunnel terminals at Cheriton near Folkestone and Sangatte near Calais.
