ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we critically review the range of analytical perspectives that have so far been adopted-either explicitly or implicitly-in the study of citytelecommunications relations. In other words, following Chapter 2, we explore how theorists have seen cities as urban places and telecommunications networks as supports for electronic spaces to be causally related. This is used to start formulating a new perspective which will provide the basic foundation underpinning the rest of the book.
