ABSTRACT
Approaches to telecommunication-environmental interactions that suggest that telecommunications will lead to the dematerialisation of the city sit rather uncomfortably with the heightened level of concern about global environmental change. If the substitution thesis is correct, surely we would expect to find comparatively less concern about urban environmental issues as telecommunications lead inextricably towards the dematerialisation of the city?
