ABSTRACT

Clearly, some creatures who fly do not care much about webs. Most birds would fly directly through most webs, but most birds generally fly higher. Those that fly at the height of some webs might well be seen as enlarging (looming) and fleeting shadows by the ommatidial eye of the spider, but not otherwise as a specific objective approach. Much of the approach could be indicated, close in at least, by air-pressure bendings of the web, although non-objective breezes do the same. Some approaches are probably signalled by the absorption of chemical gradients, thus as smells and even as airborne tastes, which latter do occur even for man.
