ABSTRACT
We saw in Basic Welsh (Unit 25) that the preterite, denoting completed action in the past, is formed in Welsh by adding preterite endings to the stem of the verb. So, for example, gweles i or (more commonly) weles i 'I saw', from stem gwel-+ first person singular ending -es + pronoun i. This we will call in what follows Preterite I.
