ABSTRACT

Dyson and Skidmore (1994) carried out a survey on the provision for specific learning disabilities in secondary schools in Scotland. These schools were not picked to be a representative sample of all schools but were invited to participate because they had features of interest to the research team. Out of 41 nominated schools 27 schools spread across 5 regions responded. Schools were specifically asked in the survey questionnaire what sort of contact they had with the parents of children with specific learning disabilities. They were also asked how this contact differed from the contact they had with other parents of children with different forms of special needs. They summarise the response to parental contact in the following way.
