ABSTRACT

If a governing body is to be effective then a group of individuals, some of whom may never have met before, must become a team and set out to work for the good of the school and its community. This implies keeping up to date about what is going on in education generally and in the school in particular, and pooling the talents and knowledge of politicians, parents, teachers and others in the locality to facilitate the successful running of the school. In this chapter we consider the roles of various kinds of governor, how governors can be trained, and what they can do to help schools.
