ABSTRACT

If dyslexics are to have special provision in a way which is fair and is seen to be fair, a number of administrative issues arise.

Ideally, each student’s case should be treated individually and based on his specific needs. These should have been pinpointed in his assessment, with the report indicating which parts of the examination are likely to put him at an unfair disadvantage (for instance writing speed). A Support Tutor or academic tutor can also make recommendations. The means by which a candidate normally presents his work should be taken into account, as should any provision which he has previously had-in GCSE, A-level, BTEC or GNVQ.
