ABSTRACT
In this chapter we explore and examine what the term ‘risk assessment’ encompasses. In our examination of the term we draw from other fields where problems of risk assessment have been ably grappled with. Our primary focus is to give the practitioner a working definition of risk assessment linked to an explicit framework to help structure effective decision making. The framework for risk assessment that we describe may be legitimately applied across a range of areas, both within and outside of the forensic field.
