ABSTRACT

After the annual pit holiday which followed period 9, No. 2 Panel further modified its rotation system (cf. the much lower level of similarity between periods 9 and 10). Our informants said that the natural break afforded by the holiday enabled the team to reassess the work situation. The faces were farther in, the standard of maintenance by seam personnel on more worn equipment had been reduced, and interference had increased. Accordingly they became more vigorous in their attitude towards claiming for waiting-on and shift work.
