Nabu Babylonian god of wisdom; son of Marduk† and husband of Tashmetu†, the Nebo† of the Old Testament. In Babylonian myth Nabu occupies a position similar to that of Thoth†, being the scribe and messenger of the gods, the god of wisdom and justice, and the guardian of the Dup Shimati, or Tablets of Wisdom. His temple was at Borsippa, the site of the ziggurat known as the Tower of Babel.
