ABSTRACT
The formulation of strict theory and the solution of many problems that had baffled the early Indo-Europeanists prepared the way for a large number of publications in the last half of the nineteenth century. By the end of the century the field had attracted many capable and highly trained scholars. They were editing the important texts and producing handbooks, many of which are used todav after numerous editions.
