ABSTRACT

Geopolitics has now become the anchor of the realist and its jargon of ‘heartland’ and ‘rimland’ is supposed to throw light on the mystery of national growth and decay. Originating in England (or was it Scotland?), it became the guiding light of the nazis, fed their dreams and ambitions of world domination, and led them to disaster … And now even the United States of America are told by Professor Spykman, in his last testament, that they are in danger of encirclement, that they should ally themselves with a ‘rimland’ nation, that in any event they should not prevent the ‘heartland’ (which means now the USSR) from uniting with the rimland. 1
