ABSTRACT
European Conservation Year 1970 (ECY) was the closest the nature conservation movement had yet come to embracing all aspects of conservation, and it opened the campaign for the hearts and minds of the people. It was the culmination of the ‘Countryside in 1970’ conferences, sponsored by the Council for Nature, the Nature Conservancy and the Royal Society of Arts.
