ABSTRACT

The work of pollution management cannot be undertaken in isolation from the sociopolitical context in which it is set. This chapter will provide a brief overview of this. It will examine the role of the public, media, politicians, industry and non-governmental organisations in managing pollution and reacting to those who undertake such management. In particular, the chapter focuses on the issues that tend to motivate each of these groups and the ways in which communication between them and the pollution manager can be made easier.
