Böhm-Bawerk argued that economies progress by the progressive adoption of wisely chosen roundabout methods of production. Lachmann reinterpreted this to mean the evolution of abilities enabling the use of more and more complex production structures. How is it that Böhm-Bawerk’s “wise choices” get made and that such abilities to use more complex methods evolve?
