ABSTRACT
Let me begin by clarifying the usage of the term ‘casework’ at the present stage of our social service training. Casework is described as a problem-solving process. A problem presents itself, and the word casework is used to describe the total function of a particular agency in meeting that problem. Quite another thing is psychotherapy, and often a psychotherapy is carried through with no accompanying casework, since the child patient is brought by adults who recognize illness, and the adult patient can do his or her own casework when freed from the inhibitions, compulsions, mood swings, and so on, which derive their energy from unconscious emotional conflicts.
