ABSTRACT
Each year at its annual meeting the American Psychiatric Association invites a lecturer, usually a psychiatrist from outside the USA, to give a lecture in honour of Adolf Meyer. I was invited to give the 1961 lecture at the meeting held that spring in Chicago. It was published later in the same year.
