Self-Reliance and Some Conditions that Promote it *

In the autumn of 1970 the Tavistock Clinic celebrated the Golden Jubilee of its foundation. To mark the event the Clinic and its sister organization, the Tavistock Institute of Human Relations, organized a conference at which papers describing work going forward in the two institutions were presented. A version of this paper was included, and an amplified version published later in the proceedings of the conference.
