Sacred Biography from the Reign of Henry II to John

Besides both national and local history, ecclesiastical biography also flourished in the latter half of the twelfth century and in the early thirteenth century. Most of the biographies were written at centres which had established biographical and historiographical traditions – at Canterbury, Durham and Lincoln.
