ABSTRACT
For historians of the Greek world, the fifth century is the pinnacle, the classical phase of the classical world. Yet strangely, rather than seeing the peak of interrelationship between Greece and the developing Celtic world, the decades after 500 BC saw trade diminishing. What contact there was seems to have been stimulated from north of the Alps, culminating in the invasions of Galli, Celtae and Galatae into Italy, Greece and Asia Minor. A new phase of interaction had been reached.
