ABSTRACT

Pottery has been produced in Egypt for more than 7,000 years and the raw materials and techniques have hardly changed. This reflects the outlook of ancient Egyptians who showed a strict adherence to religious traditions. There have been many studies of the fabrics and designs of the pottery, both archaeological and scientific. A former Disney Professor of Archaeology at Cambridge defined archaeology thus: ‘It is, I conceive, the science of teaching history by its monuments of whatever character those monuments may be.’
