ABSTRACT

The school was founded in the 1930s at the University of Freiburg in Germany by economist Walter Eucken (1891-1950) and jurist Franz Böhm (18951977). They were joined by jurist Hans Großmann-Doerth (1894-1944), who was killed in World War II, causing his influence on the later development of the school to be less visible than that of the other two founders. Besides holding joint seminars on law and economics themes, the three undertook joint research efforts, as reflected in their founding in 1937 of a publication series titled Ordnung der Wirtschaft (The Order of the Economy).1
