ABSTRACT
Sinclair (1878–1968), an American novelist and journalist, is best known for The Jungle (1906), his book about the Chicago stockyards, but he wrote more than sixty novels during his lifetime, many of them polemics in support of various liberal causes. Early in his education, Dos Passos had read and admired his work.
