ABSTRACT

If there's time, I always like to have that period first, of discussing why the characterization has to be this particular thing. I don't like to find it during the process of working; I like to do it all before. And I like to learn the music, so I know it before I start with the choreography. For the most part, Pillar was choreographed sequentially. We did little pieces here and there, but he tried to do it as the music went. Some choreographers don't work that way. They work right on the floor and they don't necessarily start from the beginning - they jump around. I've worked both ways, but I prefer Tudor's way. He just has ideas in his head but no movement at all.
