ABSTRACT
Assessment and reporting is an area of contention in Art & Design. Finding a common policy is a troublesome issue for teachers, with clashes between ideologies and practice fuelling the debate. The intervention of the 1988 Education Reform Act (ERA) in England and Wales provided statutory assessment procedures for the first time. This chapter discusses these developments and considers ways in which teachers can understand and make use of assessment procedures to develop ways of recording and reporting.
