ABSTRACT

Let us begin with some simple but meaningful facts about consumption under any circumstances. What do or can people consume in a society? People can consume what is available for consumption, within the limits of their resources. To consume anything that is not already available for consumption, they have to be able to visualize or imagine what it could be. People would have to initiate processes whereby such imagined things could be produced or made available; they would have to innovate. This process could take several forms. A consumer could selfproduce what s/he wishes to consume, have others produce it, or organize a combined productive effort with others.
