ABSTRACT

There may be more studies of leadership than of all the other aspects of management put together-well over 10,000. This is reflected in the training world, of course, where leadership is a perennially popular topic. One would therefore expect to find a chapter on leadership in a book like this, though perhaps in the section labelled ‘Individual Differences’ rather than ‘The Workplace Setting’. The reason for my emphasizing the social perspective on leadership as opposed to the individual one should become clear as we go through the chapter.
