ABSTRACT

In this final chapter I want to work towards a closer weave of the two narrative strands running through this book. On the one hand we have an account of translocality, non-statist forms of community and the emergence of new ‘distanciated’ political spaces. On the other, a story about transformation within ‘travelling Islam’ and the diasporic Muslims whose lives it shapes. Although my text is peppered with numerous references (some more explicit than others) to the linkages I see between the politics of translocality and the reimagination of the umma, I want in this conclusion to make their relationship more clear.
