ABSTRACT

The Education (Schools) Act of 1992 has required primary schools to be regularly inspected and there are DFE circulars and guidance on the legislation on which the inspections are to be based.

Although the reason for drawing up a school policy is for the ultimate benefit of the children, the fact that it is now compulsory by law also gives added weight to the importance of having a well-documented curriculum in physical education which spells out in writing what the teachers have been doing in the past and are doing and plan to do in the future, all pulling together in a unified way so that the children get continuity from one class to the next.
