ABSTRACT

School-based management (SBM) is a popular education reform that has been adopted by many states and school districts in the United States as a way to improve the performance of the education system. SBM allows people who work in schools to make decisions about how money is spent, who is hired and how students are taught. Thus, while state and local school boards (as in traditionally managed schools) set goals and standards, under SBM the decisions and processes used to meet those outcomes are made at the school level.
