ABSTRACT
Mathematics has a language system of its own, made up of figures and symbols. It is essentially about representing relationships in the world, and manipulating them. It is, therefore, a specific way of thinking. Whether we are talking about number, algebra, shape and space, data handling, etc., each mathematical topic contains a range of basic concepts which, once grasped, can give even very young children access to all kinds of exploration.
