Adam, Leonhard (1891-1960) A jurist and anthropologist, Adam is perhaps best remembered for his invention of the words †‘virilocal’ and †‘uxorilocal’, to replace †‘patrilocal’ and †‘matrilocal’ (‘“Virilocal” and “uxorilocal”,’ Man 1948). His works include Primitive Art (1940) and books on anthropological theory.
