Basic principles of effective communication w ith pupils T he role o f teaching assistants is to w ork w ith the teacher in order to support the learning o f pupils. N ow , to support learning a teaching assistant must communicate effectively w ith pupils. Effective com m unication is said to happen w hen there is open and honest communication, w hen dialogue is handled in a constructive manner and when there is consistent and effective support. These are the principles o f effective communication. But maybe a little more needs to be said about what these principles actually mean in practice.
