ABSTRACT

An objective of the analysis is to consider what the implications of EU membership are for the countries of Central and East Europe (CEE) which are currently in the process of preparing themselves for accession to the EU. Since inflows of capital are likely to be an important component of the benefits which will be achieved, analysis of the experience of countries which 15 or 20 years ago were in a similar position to a number of CEE countries should therefore provide some insights into what the future holds for these aspiring members.
