The Completion of the Inner City, 1900–1940 book
For the inner city of Stockholm, the time between the two world wars can be divided into two clearly distinguishable phases, with the years around 1930 as the dividing line. The earlier period is characterized by large courtyard blocks and classicistic idiom, the latter by slab blocks and functionalistic design. The former phase – the 1920s – was nevertheless preceded by a period of artistically intended urban planning which can only be called, after its central fi gure, the Hallman era.
