ABSTRACT

Indeed, ten years had not passed before another influx of Chinese medical influence occurred through the intermediation of a learned monk from Wu, Chih-Tshung6 (Chiso). In + 562 he travelled to Japan in the company of a general, Sadehiko, who had won a victory over some Koreans; and he took with him many books on pharmaceutical natural history (yao tien7 ), anatomy and acupuncture. The last is demonstrated by the presence of some versionof a Ming Thang ThuS (cf. p. 100 above) among the 164 scrolls which were in the baggage of the monastic physician.f Most probably the Chen Chiu Chia I Ching was among them too.
