ABSTRACT

The main aim of this document is to interpret what the Attainment Targets in the core subjects of the National Curriculum mean to pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties, and to give suggestions for activities and teaching strategies to help them work towards and achieve those targets. It would not be possible or desirable to produce a fully comprehensive document since teachers will have their own ideas, but the following uses are suggested:

to provide access to the mainstream curriculum for pupils with PMLD;

to give insight to mainstream staff as to the appropriate teaching levels for pupils with PMLD;

as a curriculum in its own right;

as a resource to complement an existing school curriculum;

as an aid to imaginative teaching.
