ABSTRACT
There are four main theoretical frameworks that have been applied to children's development in this domain: cognitive-developmental theory (CDT), social identity theory (SIT), self-categorisation theory (SCT), and social identity development theory (SIDT). None of these theories is able to explain satisfactorily the empirical ®ndings reviewed in this chapter.
