ABSTRACT

Audio is perhaps the most undervalued of all the media. When I am pressed to say what I think is the most cost-effective teaching medium, I tend to answer: CDs + print. Radio is the most accessible of all technologies for distance learners. Audio technologies are cheap, easy to use, accessible, and generally educationally effective; they are not exotic, though, and as a consequence tend to be ignored or undervalued by educational decision makers. For this reason, Schramm (1977) called audio-based technologies ‘little media’.
