ABSTRACT
Science has greatly influenced the evolution of society, and will profoundly affect its future development (Rotblat, 1999). Therefore, before we discuss the nature of the science education that constitutes a significant portion of the school curriculum, we need to consider the nature of science and the relationship between science and society. A brief history of secondary school science education will be provided as a context for the arguments for the inclusion of science within the National Curriculum.
