Pupils’ Learning in Science

In order to explore ideas about teaching, we need first to think about what we know about learning. How do our students learn science? There are a number of major theories of how learning takes place generally and, of relevance here, how we think students learn science. Table 7.1 provides an overview of two key perspectives, and the main theories and concepts underpinning them.
