ABSTRACT

The King of Hearts had clearly grasped some of the features of the National Literacy Strategy, at least where the teaching of narrative was concerned. I shall attempt to follow his advice, because I am about to tell a story, or a series of interlocking stories. This book is about the teaching of writing in Years 6 and 7, and the perceptions and experiences of pupils, teachers and parents about the nature of writing. I am writing for fellow teachers and literacy managers, with the intention of identifying key issues and suggesting practical ways of improving curriculum continuity in the teaching and uses of writing at primary-secondary transition.
