ABSTRACT

The dominance of sports performers of African descent or origin in several spheres of activity has given rise to several theoretical attempts to disclose the sources of black excellence in sports. The theories fall into two basic categories: those that locate the source in natural ability, and those that examine social conditions underlying the overachievement.
