ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to explore one of the new pedagogies of self that has an increasing currency in universities today. This new pedagogy involves the writing of individual learning portfolios. The portfolios that are of interest here are located within a set of workbased learning (WBL) programmes at a university in Australia. In this university, WBL programmes refer to a set of postgraduate degrees where learners’ work, work experience and workplace are the source of the curriculum. This kind of curriculum is in contrast to more conventional university programmes that are usually organised around academically defined bodies of knowledge.
