ABSTRACT
Introduction This chapter accounts for the dynamics of contemporary welfare state transformation in Europe and relates these to migration politics. The chapter complements contributions to the book that focus on migration politics, allude to the significance of welfare policy, but leave as implicit the question of the nature of welfare state dynamics. In other words, whereas other chapters in this book focus primarily on migration, this chapter focuses primarily on the welfare state and draws out some implications for social citizenship and migrant inclusion. The chapter addresses the kinds of issues, questions, and problems that migration dynamics pose for welfare state restructuring.
