ABSTRACT

The combination of assessment and technology means that CAA potentially touches many aspects of learning and teaching in higher education, including the value of peer and self-assessment, suitability of question and examination types in different disciplines, the role of online learning, and issues of power within the examining process. This chapter will attempt to locate CAA within current thinking about assessment and online learning. In particular, it will consider recent research on summative and formative assessment; student participation in the assessment process; the significance of electronic literacy; and issues of control in the context of CAA.
