ABSTRACT

Self-esteem may be or become an issue for any child or young person who has an injury or condition that affects the way they look. However, it is also true that someone with no disfigurement can have painfully low self-esteem and someone with a severe facial disfigurement can have very good self-esteem. Deteriorating selfesteem has been linked to people’s repeated failure to achieve their desired level of social interaction, and/or their repeated failure to achieve smooth-running social interactions. 1
