ABSTRACT
When we think of assessment we often assume that grading essays or completing exams are the primary tool. It is certainly a major means, however, there are many practitioners who suggest that we think more carefully about how we break down this skill and use assessment and feedback to encourage students to develop the complex set of skills and knowledge which the essay requires students to deploy.
